Our Supply Chain Data Science team oversees the development of cutting-edge mathematical techniques to help solve critical supply chain problems for Target, e.g. identify optimal inventory quantities and placement across multiple channels and locations, plan the right mix of inventory investments versus guest experience, digital order fulfillment planning, transportation resource planning, optimal order allocation, etc. As a data science leader in the digital fulfillment space, you will have the opportunity to create insight and drive the adoption of cutting-edge quantitative techniques in building advanced optimization and simulation models that inform order allocation of guests to optimize customer service. flow to meet digital demand. This is a great opportunity for leaders who are passionate about creating value by leveraging science to improve organizational decision-making.

As the director of data science at Target, you will be the technical lead of a team that will design, develop, implement and maintain large-scale optimization algorithms and models for our retail business. You will work closely with applied data scientists, data analysts and supply chain business partners to learn more about our business needs. You will also work with engineers from the technology teams to build and produce data science solutions for our digital compliance needs. The Director of Data Sciences will work with business, technology and product partners to define product roadmaps that fit our ecosystem and solve the challenges of retail at scale. You will build consensus and communicate with senior management. He will lead the creation of new standards and best practices with a focus on emerging technologies and authored numerous project related documents, vision statements and roadmaps.

You will also create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, inclusion, communication of day-to-day decisions, priorities and relevant project information. You will manage resource allocation and define and communicate the team's overall vision and goals. In this Data Science Director role, you will:
  • Develop a solid understanding of business and operational processes within the Target supply chain.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the various systems and processes that affect the speed and cost of digital order fulfillment. Identify opportunities to drive efficiencies through simulation/optimization/improved decision models.
  • Lead a team that writes code for mathematical and statistical modeling. Develop a modular framework to build large-scale simulation and optimization models for your compliance network
  • Add new capabilities and capabilities to optimization templates to reflect the complexities of an ever-changing digital compliance network
  • Develop models and simulations for various supply chain network scenarios to optimize business outcomes
  • Design and develop algorithms and solutions using operations research, machine learning techniques, heuristics and approximation algorithms
  • Have a working knowledge of exact approximation algorithms and heuristic methods for solving difficult optimization problems such as order allocation, network design, transport routing, etc.
  • Set up experiments, validate hypotheses, and leverage simulation capabilities to continuously improve algorithms and decision-making.
  • Drive business decisions by highlighting opportunities, identifying correlations, designing experiments, and determining cause-and-effect relationships.
  • Collaborate with product and technology teams to advance and integrate solutions into execution systems, such as order orchestration and allocation, transportation, etc. Define financial, analytical and business metrics to measure the results of the complicated decision model and produce performance reports.
  • Lead a team of high-performing data scientists and be comfortable conducting code and design reviews to solve complex business problems in the digital compliance space. Communicate model findings and recommendations to senior management, in a very clear and concise manner.
